This happened over a month ago but it still stings. Johnny Depp was my best signer in 2012. If he was having an event in Los Angeles he was a sure thing to sign. Well that has been anything but the case in 2013. A few weeks earlier he did an event and his security guard promised to bring him over after (he did the exact opposite and hurried him into his SUV to leave after). But I chalked that one time up as an aberration. Johnny would not skip the fans twice. So I had hope when I went for Johnny when he made a late night talk show appearance.
He arrived and we loudly called his name "Johnny!" "Johnny!" "Please sign". He waved to the crowd. He nodded his head "yes", and made the "after" signal with his hand (the one finger in a circular motion like a wheel). Ok that's more like it, everything is right in the universe, Johnny was going to sign after. The crowd waited with anticipation to see one of their favorite stars up close in about a couple hours.
Then about an hour and a half later Johnny's SUV pulled directly up to the exit doors. The driver positioned the back SUV door directly in front of the building exit.
A few minutes later I saw it happen with my own bewildered eyes: Johnny Depp left the building and got directly in his SUV and drove off. It was shocking, heartbreaking, and demoralizing. He had just signaled to us less than two hours ago that he would do it after. It still stings. Hundreds of fans were there. Some had waited 12 plus hours. And Johnny simply ignored everyone and left. We all went home shellshocked. Johnny will not be making it on my Best Signers List of 2013.
