I drove the hour and a half to Santa Barbara again on Friday. The Virtuosos Awards were going on and 6 people were scheduled to be honored: Rooney Mara, Shailene Woodley, Andy Serkis, Demian Bichir, Melissa McCarthy, and Patton Oswalt.
I was most excited for Rooney and Shailene as both can be tough so meeting them in the low key Santa Barbara setting would be ideal. Melissa McCarthy ended up getting sick and didn't make the event.
Andy Serkis did make the event, and about two hours before the awards I spotted him walking down the sidewalk. He was great. He signed everything we had with us and took pictures with us as well. I got him on an individual 12x18, three cool magazines, one Hobbit 11x14 already signed by Dominic Monaghan, one 11x14 of the Tin Tin poster shot, and two 8x10s.
Demian Bichir also came early and was walking around and was really weird about signing. He did it, but was just strange in the way he acted. I can't really describe it other than to say he just didn't seem to understand why he was being asked for his autograph. But he signed two 11x14s for me.
Next the event started and Patton Oswalt came first and didn't sign as always. The guy is NOT a pleasant person to fans.
But Shailene Woodley and Rooney Mara came basically at the same time and made up for it. They both signed and were very nice to fans. Rooney signed two 11x14s for me. Shailene signed three 11x14s for me.
A pretty good day.
